Hi, I'm Jeff.

Fearless Performance exists because I fear a LOT! Those fearful choices mix with choices of wanting to make music for a living, and the result is my deep understanding of fear and replacing fear in performance. I’ve made music more important than fear enough times to have performed both horn concerti and chamber music on six continents, and in the horn sections of dozens of orchestras including the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonics, and the Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Montreal, and St. Louis Symphonies. If it’s success that helps you trust my methods, I often say, “I’m an idiot, but I’m a very successful idiot.”

If it’s struggles that connect you to my methods, I know struggles well too.  You can watch my mouth go as dry as a desert in my Fearless Performance TED Talk of 2011.  I quit horn in high school, and took 3 years off the horn.  It was hard coming back to it, while also a good lesson in separating my self worth from what I did on the horn. Years later, while preparing for my Montreal Symphony audition I developed a hesitation in starting notes on my horn that has almost convinced me to quit a couple more times. I use my own tricks to start notes in every concert I’ve played since that 1994 struggle. I used my note-releasing tricks when I played guest principal horn with the Philadelphia Orchestra in Carnegie Hall, and I use it in the 75 concerts a year I perform with Canadian Brass.

Welcome!  I’m ready to give ya all I’ve got. I’m Jeff, the fearful one…but also the successful one. I started with replacing my own fears.  Then I found myself discussing fear with my friends to some good results. Now I get to help performers ranging from beginners to Cleveland Orchestra members, athletes to magicians, TED Talkers to entrepreneurs move closer to reaching their successes too.
